Summer 2017 has shown me nothing but promise when it comes to creating a “go-to” playlist for long road trips and plane rides.
For me, it’s all about being able to groove, funk, and jam as I carry on whatever task I need to be doing. Danceable tunes! Groove-making melodies! Catchy lyrics! I have no problem openly dancing as I conquer my mountains of paperwork, rearranging the office or commuting to and from the record shop. Summer is ALL about getting down to something groovy.
Here are the bands I’ve been OBSESSED with this summer:
Jessica Hernandez & the Deltas
Starting off with the biggest bang, I’ve been jamming hard to my favorite mama and her band, Jessica Hernandez & the Deltas. Not only does she have a killer style, but she’s a self-made woman with an outstanding and powerful voice. I’m a massive fan of her work in general , and hopefully, you will be too!
Jessica Hernandez & the Deltas have just released both the English and Spanish editions of their new album, Telephone/Telefono. You can pick it up and purchase it here and follow them on Instagram, Facebook, and on their site.
If you didn’t know, I hail from the Bay Area, and I carry much pride by being from there originally, and SWMRS completely gets that. From their music to their mentality and how each member is when it comes to their fans and following, SWMRS is what gives me hope for the longevity of punk music. Their personalities and genuine spirits and beliefs come through so transparently in their music and if that wasn’t enough, their interviews are interesting and their live performances are electric. SWMRS is Bay Area born-and-bred and they aren’t afraid to be who they are.
I’ve honestly been so stunned with the Stockport-based band, Blossoms, in the last few months. If you want a modern band with a similar sound like Tears for Fears and OMD, Blossoms is your answer. Taking over festival grounds all over the world on the emerging artists’s stages.
Their sound is nostalgic with a modern twist of their own. (And yes, I’m hooked on Myles Kellock’s Wise Words and the new Mind of Myles series).
The Kooks are such a mood changer for me. Whether it be through their classic singles like “Naive” or “Junk of the Heart”, the Kooks get my mood up and hyped up. They have such memorable lyrics and a distinctive sound. Their newest single “Be Who You Are” has been getting me through the hustle and bustle of summer work.
This legendary band’s newest installment, Best of… So Far, can be found here!
