DAZN’s Miami Fight Night Event Recap

On a hot Thursday evening during Super Bowl weekend, DAZN made their presence known in Miami.

During a card that featured a world title tripleheader and one of the more mysterious middleweight champions, Demetrius Andrade, Jake Paul surprisingly came out of DAZN’s fight night card with the most impressive performance of the evening for the casual fan.

The event started with Murodjon Akhmadaliev, a 7-0 Olympic bronze medalist, shocking Daniel Roman, and becoming a unified junior featherweight champion. Roman was coming off the longest layoff in his career and came up just short, losing seven rounds to five on two judges cards.

In the evening’s 2nd world title bout, Tevin Farmer, one of the many who have been jawing at Tank Davis for a fight, lost his championship in a shocker against Jojo Diaz.

Diaz was vying for a title for the 3rd time in his career, and the patience finally paid off. A rematch of this fight seemed to be the immediate next step, but since Jojo is signed with a different promoter, it’ll be up to Farmer to use the rematch clause.

In the main card’s 3rd bout, Jake Paul looked fantastic for a pro boxing debutant. A 1st round TKO that featured three knockdowns over Arneson Gib lead to Jake calling out KSI for what looks to be the oldest brother grudge match. KSI had not been quiet about beating Jake’s brother Logan on a DAZN card late last year, and now it looks like we’ll have at least one more of these youtube feature fights.

Finally, in the main event, Demetrius “BooBoo” Andrade easily scored a 9th round stoppage over Irishman, Luke Keeler.

Andrade has been a presence in the division since he was featured on HBO as a 154 lb champ. Now a full-fledged middleweight, Andrade was looking to fight Jermall Charlo to unify, but after a sustained failure to broker a deal, this bout with Keeler materialized.

In the eyes of boxing fans, Andrade may need that big fight sooner than later. Canelo, Golovkin, and Charlo may be hard to catch, but if he doesn’t, he might have to join Joe Louis is fighting members of the “bum of the month club.”
